La Rioja, Spain

The past few days I’ve been learning and enjoying the wine in La Rioja Spain.

I have quite a bit to share in that I’ve not only learning about wine but also how other people make wine such an unapproachable topic.

This wasn’t the case at all in Haro, a small town in the La Rioja region on Spain.

To grow the wine industry they built the wineries next to the train station because it would be easy to receive the grapes and ship it out.

Because of the strict classification, wine in La Rioja can be similar but the stories and people behind the vineyards are fascinating.

I’d love for you to check out my quick video of wine in Haro.

If you are looking to balance wine with adventure check out this post onthe original route to Santiago from Stingy Backpackers.

I only wish I had a sense of adventure to attempt this Camino Santiago route.

Where is your favourite wine, do you have any wine tasting tips?

  1. Be sure to go to the town of LaGuardia. It’s an old, walled village with a maze of wine caves beneath the streets. Pretty cool!

  2. Mmmmm. Looks yummy. And I like the way you edited your video to the music!

  3. What was that sausage dish that was sitting beside the table with the white wine on it (photo above)? Never thought the two would ever pair, but what do I know about that! 😛

  4. Awesome video…love how it is edited to the music. Looks like a great destination. Too bad it’s a tad too far from where we are in Portugal to make a trip of it. Maybe later this year, though.

  5. Oh I really liked La Rioja! I hope you are going to San Sebastian for pintxos? Oh how I would love to be back in Spain right now!

  6. Wine, wine, wine and MORE wine! Makes me feel a little bit tipsy looking at all those bottles being opened and wine being poured. AND I LOVE that they still stomp on the grapes! Great video!

I went to La Rioja about 10 years ago and loved it, especially the wine of course! Glad you liked it!

  9. How I wish I have a vineyard too! Facepalm.

Thanks for bringing up the topic of ‘approachability’ when it comes to wine. Why is it considered so precious in the West, or at least in the States? It’s not rocket science, and while I certainly appreciate a nice pinot noir, there’s no need to get all snobby if someone else doesn’t.

  11. Cycle Party says:

Wine Soaked Days, awesome title. Nice editing as well!

  12. Loved your video! I have been there and was so jealous! I think you were at Lopez Heredia too? It is all amazing! Muga is a wine favorite! I love wine, Mendoza, Argentina where they make malbec is another great spot!

  13. Mmmmm wine, perhaps the thing I miss the most living in Asia! One more reason to get to Europe and South America 🙂 Loved the video.

Am planning on going to Madrid end of this summer and your blog has given me a lot of insight on where to go. (I am hoping I could go out of Madrid as well!)

  16. Wow…this region is something I definitely need to see and taste 😉 We have been to Spain many times, but not this area. Great post, thanks for sharing
