Jasper, Canada
Believe it or not I was a bit afraid of heading to Jasper in January, while I am Canadian I haven’t spent much time in the north and the only other time I’m traveled toward snow was last year in Finland.
But as I mentioned in the Year of Focus I want to spend more time in North America, and Western Canada has some of the most beautiful views like the one above.
Most people go to Jasper for skiing, dog sledding, ice canyon walks, you can even go on a winter wildlife safari. And while I had a plan to attempt snowboarding I really just wanted the apres ski and to spend time in town. Everyone raves about Banff, Alberta but Jasper is like its little sister that never gets any attention and instead of it being a big resort town, Jasper is an actual working town where tourists are welcome but not the sole purpose of existence.
As I wasn’t breaking a sweat on the ski slopes I had lots of time to walk around and share Jasper on Instagram.
That video scrolls a bit fast here were my highlights.
Bundling up in the cold weather and realizing that while I forgot my hat and gloves, there is a dollar store nearby!
Learning to pair wine with game at Papa Georges.
Interesting pieces of art and culture like this totem pole.
Learning how to make cocktails with great wild boar garnishes at Evil Dave’s.
Practically becoming a regular at the Jasper Brewing Company with a whopping 3 visits and a tour over 3.5 days.
But the most eventful of it all was snowboarding – a story so dramatic it needs a post of its own!
I’d love to see a place like Jasper in the winter. I thought it was cold in Chicago, but -19C would be a whole new challenge.
Well I will say that it’s so cold you can’t really tell the difference between -10C and -20C
Both are cold 🙂
Nice place for visit….
Great place to visit!
Looks like such an awesome place!
It’s really a fantastic place to visit in winter.
Beautiful food pictures, as always!
We’ve had some pretty crazy temperatures in Toronto, so I just want to know how cold was it in Jasper? (or the Prairies in general, actually). I’m looking forward to hearing (er, reading) your story on snowboarding… To this day, I’m still building up courage to finally give it a try.
You know surprisingly it wasn’t much colder than Toronto – although we’ve had a really cold winter. -19C was unusual for them, the weeks prior it was around 0C
Love the totem pole pic. Did you bring me a beer? 🙂
I did…but then I drank it 🙂
I’m really dying to visit Alberta, your photos look beautiful! I would definitely do some of the winter sports, though!
Now I want to see much more of Alberta too.
Great pictures! Snowboarding looked like a lot of fun as well.
It may be more fun for some people than others 🙂
Where are the promised photos of you snowboarding? Looking forward to seeing that!
I haven’t been to Jasper in over 20 years. I think it might be time for another visit.
I wish I could say I was successful at snowboarding. I was not.
Amazing photos! I just hope i’ll get to Jasper someday
It’s a great place to visit.
I love the ice-sculpted furniture, and what a landscape. The clean arctic air must have been therapeutic.
It definitely made for rosy cheeks!
These photos really make me want to visit next year for a snowboarding trip.
Well if you love snowboarding this is the place to go.
Looks like you had some great food! Much better than the haggis I had!
I wish I had haggis!
I had heard good things about Papa George’s! Next time…
Definitely go for the 5-7pm wine and food pairing.
Very nice! I love the images that you used in your blog and I am dying to visit this place. Amazing collection. Good job
It’s a beautiful town to visit, you should go.
The charm of Jasper is infectious … as a former resident, I’m glad you got a chance to experience it!
It really is a great place to spend time – so quaint and friendly.
I love Jasper and miss it ever so dearly. These pictures remind of my time living in Alberta.
Thanks for this!
It’s a beautiful place, I can imagine you’d really miss it.
