Amman, Jordan
My last day all I wanted to do was walk around with Mahmoud and listen to him tell me about Amman.
Even with ten days I feel like I scratched the surface.
Two things that were not on my itinerary but I was dying to see, were the market and a mosque. Fortunately they were right beside each other.
The market was packed with people, fresh figs, pomegranates and people shouting out what they had to sell.
A lot of the vendors offered the exotic fruits for me to try.
The city is electric with people buying everything from sunglasses to dried spices on the street.
This was one of my favourite moments on the trip as Mahmoud would just show me and explain all of the dried food and I just took in the sounds of the city.
And then I heard the most important sound of all, the bells for the call to prayer.
We hadn’t intended to go to the mosque at that time. It meant I could not go inside, but was able to witness the prayers as Mahmoud explained it to me.
It was such a great last day in Jordan and reaffirmed there is so much more to see.

I love the last picture of the people praying. Tried to get one in Istanbul but had no chance as I wasn’t able to go inside.
Sounds like Amman is a great place to visit and it sounds safe!
Weird, why weren’t you able to go inside the mosque?
One thing I note always is,pple take pictures praying pple from the back. I guess it would be more appropriate taking the pictures from the sides
Well I wouldn’t go in during a service, any other time would have been okay. I preferred to take people’s photos from the back as they were in a private moment, but I think the beauty of it is still captured even if you don’t see people’s faces.

Pomegranates! I got so hooked on pomegranate juice in Turkey. Nice to see they are in Amman as well 😀

It is always great to be in a place so different from what we’ve experienced before. I felt that once but only for 2 days in Istanbul. I would have loved to get 10 days to take it all in.

When I was in Turkey, I thought about going to Jordan. Sadly, I opted not to head that way. I wish I had done so … it seems like this country is magnificent. I hope to make it over there in 2012/2013. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your stories about your time in Jordan. You’ve definitely influenced my decision to head there. 🙂
A lot of people just do a quick 2-3 day trip when they are in neighboring countries but it has so many things to do on its own.
Really cool pictures and story that gives a feel for the place. I would love to make a visit there!
You know a lot of people put trips to Egypt and Syria on hold but you can easily make an entire trip out of Jordan.

It’s such a special place, I really do hope I’ve helped some people see that even though there may be things going on in other countries they shouldn’t write off the Middle East as a whole.

I wanted to convey the feel of the moment and saturation just felt wrong. I use Lightroom as I travel with a netbook. But thanks for the encouragement.

Arab cities seem like colorless. I remember Malta island in the mediterranean and the city was similar to this one.

Lovely photos! I really enjoyed Jordan. It has an amazing history and staying in Wadi Rum was just an amazing experience that I can only recommend to anyone.
