Toronto, Canada
This year Toronto Pride fell on Canada Day weekend. This was the 32nd festival and demonstrates what I love about Toronto.
In the city the festival is not just for the LGBT community, almost everyone participates in some way and while it’s confined to a small area of the city, nearly 1 million people cram in to watch the parade.
I had already been to a few events that weeks and met up with some friends in Chinatown for Vietnamese food and decided that we should all head over to the area as there would be lots of music. It was a hot summer night so everyone was up for it but wanted to have some drinks first.
I had the perfect idea.
Chinatown was a leisurely 45 minute walk to the festival neighbourhood so we would start with one drink at the Vietnamese restaurant (who knew they served decent white wine) and the moment we exited the doors I would start a 15 minute timer.
When the timer goes off we would go into the first establishment that had alcohol and each buy a drink. No matter how dodgy or unappealing the place we had to go in. We would keep doing this until we reached the party.
Genius?
Perhaps. It ended up being a fun night, although it started to get as fuzzy as these photos. But this is exactly why I wanted to come back to Toronto. I missed my friends and summer nights like these are perfect.

Ohh I want that Proud to be Canadian shirt – What fun! I’ve never been to Pride anywhere, but it looks like great fun. That’s one thing I do love about Canada – our acceptance of everyone!

Brilliant!! PLUS, it gave you a guaranteed potty stop every 15 minutes – double genius! I was in Toronto for 15 months many yrs ago because of work and I haven’t been back since – but I had a blast during my time there. Cheers!

I wish I could say I felt the same about being back home in St. Louis. When people ask me if I am happy to be back I always say “In the States, yes, in St. Louis, not really.” I am dying to go to Toronto!
