Day 56: Jewel and Pigeon Cay, Honduras
Geof decided to go with a smaller dive shop in Utila that was based off the island and on the tiny Jewel and Pigeon Cays, that were no bigger than half a block.
During our time we had walked up the same strip so many times, eating at each of the four restaurants and we thought we knew the area well.
As beautiful as the Cays were, neither of us had taken many photos.
Sometimes it’s difficult to capture the essence of a place, especially if it likely includes generic looking water and landscape shots. I just couldn’t see the shots.
I liked the quirkiness of the place but we hadn’t used our DSLRs once and so with an hour to go before leaving Geof suggested that walk the length and just shoot whatever we saw.
Looking back at these photos, I realize that it wasn’t the water and landscape shots that made the Cays so beautiful but the little details that gave it character.

Beautiful shots AB! The colours are gorg.
I’d like to sit in the chair with a good book or crossword puzzle for a day.
Love it!
beautiful photos! Beauty is in the details, for sure.
What fantastic photography! You mention using your DSLR but what one do you own and what lens?
Ash
Thanks Ash. It’s a Canon 40D. I keep a 50mm 1.4, 10-22mm and the kit lens 17-85mm which I’m not a huge fan of but it gives some flexibility.
Very nice shots indeed. It’s a side of Honduras I did not explore…
Aye, you have the eye of an artist. People always make fun of me or look confused when they see me takin photo’s up close like that. But once I print them, they realize my photos are awesome and they are stupid.
The End.
These are great pics! Sometimes the best little nuggets are hidden in the bigger picture. Glad you were able to see these and snap them. They are beautiful!
That fence photo is totally gorgeous!!
Beautiful photos! Love these kind of details too 🙂
I do that all the time — realize later that I didn’t take many photos of an awesome place. I’m a sucker for close-up shots like this. Well-done, as always.
I ran into that issue in Belize. While everything was so beautiful and awesome, I just couldn’t do it. There was nothing original about what I could bring to the table.
I think sometimes you just need to relax and put the camera down. I don’t want photography to feel like a job on the road.
I love the colors. Can’t wait to be back on an island/beach.
Me too 🙂
